When: New Zealand v India, 5th T20I, February 2, 20:00 Local, 12:30 IST
Where: Bay Oval, Mt Maunganui
What to expect: Thankfully, New Zealand have a largely successful record at the Bay Oval, having only lost 1 out of 5 completed T20I matches, their last here against Pakistan two years ago. There are some reports about how Mt Maunganui is fast turning into New Zealand's Gold Coast in terms of being overly populated and overly expensive with the massive influx of those moving in from Auckland, Hamilton and the likes. The pitch for the Test against England was slow and low but has historically produced a lot of runs -- New Zealand made 243 against the West Indies in 2018 -- in the shortest format. It should be relatively less windy here than in Wellington, which should hopefully improve both teams' catching standards.
Team News
New Zealand
Williamson should be back for his "home" game and that might give the option of leaving Tom Bruce out and perhaps bringing Blair Tickner back to strengthen the attack. Time is ticking for the Kiwis to start figuring out their lower middle-order though with the World Cup now just 8 months away.
Probable XI: Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson (c), Ross Taylor, Tim Seifert (wk), Tom Bruce, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Scott Kuggeleijn, Hamish Bennett/Blair Tickner/ Daryl Mitchell
India
Jasprit Bumrah might be in line for a much-deserved rest after having led the attack for the first four games. With Rohit Sharma expected to be back, would Virat Kohli actually give himself a break? Maybe not considering he's yet to play a standout knock this series and based on his reaction after getting out to Hamish Bennett, he might have a score to settle with the combative Kiwi pacer, if he plays. Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant may come into the equation too in case, India decide to rest KL Rahul instead.
Probable XI: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul (wk)/Sanju Samson, Virat Kohli (c), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal/Kuldeep Yadav, Navdeep Saini
