Chapter 15
The words hung in the air, a stark reminder of the reality outside their illicit thoughts. Anushka's hand flew to her mouth, stifling a cry. Aryan's expression was a mask of shock. The family crisis hit them like a bolt of lightning.
In the hospital, amidst the sterile smell of antiseptic and the beeping of monitors, the siblings found themselves thrust into a world where the lines of familial love blurred. They were forced to stand side by side, a united front for their mother's sake. Each shared glance was fraught with tension, the air between them thick with unspoken need.
The sight of their father lying in a hospital bed, hooked up to machines, was a sobering one. It brought into sharp focus the fragility of life and the strength of the bonds that held them together. Anushka couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt for her own desires. How could she have let things get so out of hand?
The time in the hospital were a blur of tension and fear. Yet, amidst the chaos, there were moments of quiet unity. They held each other's hands, offered comfort, and shared whispered words of encouragement—each touch, each glance, was platonic.
The doctor came out of the ICU smiling towards them. “Everything is fine. It was a false alarm. Acidity and restlessness. Nothing more. But we will keep him under observation for tonight as a precaution. You can take him home tomorrow morning.”
It was a great relief to the three of them as they hugged each other. Their mother asked the siblings to go home and that she will stay the night at the hospital. Aryan protested but his mother firmly told him to go home with his sister and rest. Anushka protested too…a bit half heartedly knowing fully well that their mother will have none of this.
On the drive home Anushka looked sideways at her brother. She thought about the last kiss they shared. She had nudged him towards her but the false alarm had set them back a bit. Aryan’s expressions seemed serious. Anushka took a deep breath and turned to face Aryan, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Bhaiyya," she began, her voice barely above a whisper. "I need to tell you something."
Her brother's gaze searched hers, the worry etched on his handsome features making him look so much older than his 22 years. "What is it?" he asked, his voice gruff with his own pain.
Anushka took a deep breath, her heart hammering in her chest. "I know you've been struggling," she said, her voice shaking. "And I... I think I understand now."
Anushka took a deep breath, the words spilling out of her in a rush. "I mean... I've had these... these feelings too," she confessed, her cheeks flaming red. "But I didn't know what to do with them, how to deal with them. They felt so wrong.”
“Yesterday when you kissed me, all my doubts were cleared.” She said unabashedly.
Aryan's eyes widened in shock, his hand tightening around hers. His other hand on the steering wheel. His eyes barely looking at the road ahead. He finally spoke, his voice hoarse. "Anushka, I never wanted to put you through this. I never wanted to make you feel uncomfortable."
Anushka looked away, her eyes filling with tears. "I know," she whispered. "But it's there, and I can't ignore it anymore."
Aryan leaned closer, his breath hitching in his chest. "What are we going to do?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Anushka looked into his eyes, the turmoil inside her reflected in the depths of his gaze. "I don't know," she admitted. "But I think we need to talk about it."
Aryan nodded, swallowing hard. "Okay," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "What do you want to say?"
Anushka took a deep breath, her heart hammering against her ribs like a caged bird. "I... I've felt it too," she admitted. "I don't know why, or how it happened, but I can't deny it anymore. When I see you, when I think about you, it's not just as my brother anymore."
Aryan's grip on her hand tightened, his eyes searching hers for any sign of doubt. "What are you saying?"
Anushka took a deep breath, her voice barely a whisper. "I'm saying... I've felt it too."
The words hung in the air, heavy with the weight of their implications. Aryan's eyes searched hers, a mix of shock and hope swirling in their depths.
As they drove back to the empty bungalow, the silence in the car was deafening. Anushka's mind raced with the revelation she had just shared. The house loomed ahead, a symbol of their shared past, now a battleground for their forbidden desires.
Finally Anushka confess
Congratulations
Best day of life as a brother
