When women go for an ultrasound, especially a transvaginal ultrasound, in Indian hospitals, the following happens:

Women usually do not need to be completely nude. For a normal abdominal ultrasound, the patient is asked to wear loose-fitting clothes or may be asked to partially expose the lower abdomen by lifting or lowering the clothes a little, depending on the area to be scanned.

For a transvaginal ultrasound, the woman is asked to remove her clothes and undergarments from the waist down. She is usually given a gown or drape to cover her lower body for modesty and during the procedure.

Full body nudity is never necessary; only the part to be examined is exposed, and privacy is respected as much as possible. In India, the presence of a female attendant or chaperone is standard practice during intimate procedures, especially if the examiner is male.




Many Indian hospitals and diagnostic centres arrange for the presence of a female nurse, technician, or attendant, either at the request of the patient or his family or as a matter of routine protocol.
