It's about social dynamics and while writing this response I could point to 2 things that lead to this as per me and my experience in life as of now.
1. Women are in general very trusting towards men and knowing he is a friend of her most trusted person(her husband or her boyfriend ) she tend to bit less reserve than usual unless she find the other person's intentions suspicious from starting.
2. A already know person who is know for dating is always above the person who is new to the dating game(it's true in men and women case).

I would like to explain through my experience.

Experience - 1

My close friend was trying hard on many girl just to get into a relationship in his college years and get a medal on his chest of achieving this. Due to this he started getting desperate and getting involved with girls way below his standard (Sorry if I'm disrespecting girls, but we are all here to speak things in its truest form and be anonymous.) I would also say that these are from my stand point POV which might not be true from my friends side.

Due his such desperation he finally was able to get into a relationship, and upon knowing about the girl and straight away rejected her in my mind that she is just okay okay and I don't have to so desperate to get a girl and lower my expectation before going into the relationship.

But in the subsequent interaction with her, knowing her as a person, and the experience that he is getting being in a relationship with her I started to get jealous and some what hoped that I could get into relationship with her. I think she was exceptionally open towards me knowing I'm her BF close friend and acted in a slight close friend manner. Might be she had some intentions to know about her BF through me, but indirectly I was getting attracted towards her in somewhat manner.

Conclusion: I think we men tend to get jealous with there friend's GF, but we should also not dismiss the fact that women too try to be slightly open towards men who are friends with there husband. Similar case can be seen when Bhaiya , Bhabhi and Devar are involved.

Experience -2

This happened when I joined a new company and was distant towards making friends in the company and limited my interactions (I was about to change my company within months of joining this company) with colleagues. But don't know what intrigued 2 girl (Let's call the A set of girl)in my team that they started to get close to me and interact with me. There were few girls (Let call the B set of girls) who stick to there female group and avoided acting like these two girls(A).
Now during one bonding session we all colleagues started to know about each other relationship. To avoid any embarrassment I lied that I'm in a relationship with a girl who is working in some other company. Now knowing this the response from the A set of the girls dropped drastically but some time they used to flirt and offer help when I was in trouble without me asking them. As if they wanted to get close to me.
But from 1 girl from the B group started the friendship and we were getting really close. She started to share the info about her day to day activity, showing her pics although knowing the fact that I have mentioned I'm in relationship with someone and maintaining this stand when every the question was raised to share more info about my GF.
All this interaction lead to a small gift between one girl from group A and 1 girl from group B. Though not a big one but still noticeable to my other colleagues.

Conclusion: I think, the 1st conclusion and the 2 point mentioned above, stand true with girls too. Knowing the fact that a person is or was in a relationship makes them more desirable.

Now, I'm not able to draw a final conclusion as I don't know what goes in a lady's mind. For that I would request the original thread started to share her views.
