you are right. a writer should write what he likes. that way he will remain hooked to the story and there are more chances of the story being complete. if you ask for peoples suggestions then there is always the chance of the actual vision being derailed. a story has only one writer but many readers and every reader does not have the same likes or dislikes

To me a writer has whole plot and characters when he/she starts a story. Readers were slowly introduced to it. Suggestions from readers are welcomed but writer is under no obligation to entertain them. Off course readers can always criticize the story in civilized manner, which writer should take with open mind.
