The passion for football in the country(UK) grew and the churches, trade unions, and schools organized - working-class boys and men into recreational football teams. All workers started having Saturday off’s just to watch those football games from the unions/churches/schools.

The first football club is believed to be formed in Edinburgh in 1824. Early clubs are formed by the former students of the school and the first of its kind is known to be the Sheffield in 1855. The school teams dominated the game until the teams consisting of workers prevailed.

The professionalism in the game kicked off and players are getting paid to play for their clubs. At first, players getting paid was banned but a year later it was sanctioned and the practice has started.

The first-ever football tournament, the Youdan Cup in 1867 and Cromwell cup in 1868 was played. In 1871 Football Association challenge cup (FA cup) has started which is still played till date. Even though it's not the first tournament played in history, the FA cup is called the oldest national football competition. Followed by the second oldest - Scottish cup, third oldest Durand Cup, and the fourth oldest being IFA shield.

The first international match was arranged by the Football Association between England and Scotland in 1870 march. FIFA was founded in 1904 by 7 countries from Europe but only after 1911 did countries from the UK joined FIFA. Now it has 211 nation members and to think United nations have only 193 nation members.

Indian football association was founded in 1893 and to compare the most popular sport in India, the BCCI was founded in 1928. AIFF(all Indian football federation) was founded in 1937 under GOI.

We have a club which is founded in 1889 and still exists. MOHUN BAGAN AC. The highlight of the club was when in 1911 the club Mohun Bagan AC(Athletic club) defeated the East Yorkshire regiment in the final of the IFA shield. That win was considered a landmark victory in the Indian freedom struggle.
