I just don't understand why avesh khan is being selected for international matches

The problem is with the selectors, they selected three fast, three spin and two all-rounders. Now with Jadeja being a certainty, no body will pick up 2nd spinner what to say of third, so it will be Ashwin/ Chahal/ Bishnoi, only one. Now Hardik is an all-rounder and more importantly his work load will have to be managed as the real target is T 20 world cup.so we are left with three selected pacers. Shardul will come only in case of injury . If the team composition is going to be, 3 pacers, 1 spinner 2 all -rounder ( 1 pace, 1 spin ) so what was the need to select equal number of pacers and spinners ?

they are testing other bowlers also in case any bowler is needed

In world cup, they are looking for a third pacer. As Bumrah and Bhuvi to me looks settled. It will certainly not be Avesh. It has be Harshal ( who can bat a bit ), or Arshdeep or even Shami or ....For power play and death overs both Bumrah and Bhuvi meet the need. However, third pacer will be someone who beings variety and can bat a bit.

Avesh Khan is not a international type material yet. He needs a lot more practice in domestic arena or play some County cricket

Australia will be more seam friendly and warm if not hot, so those conditions and another requirement will be a left arm pacer. Arshdeep fills the bill. Natrajan has not played recently. Both bhuvi and bumrah are right handed . Harshal has performed well in New Zeland so will be there for selectors. But certainly not Avesh.
